The scenario starts time JUL020415 (daybreak)
a) Enemy The enemy has shown they do not back down from a fight but choose preferably their own, and as air has noticed they have ZU-23 in the hills overwatching the valley. On our route back to FOB KINDUF we are expected to encounter hasty ambushes and not prepared ambushes as we are taking a different route back then we came on. Intel collected during yesterdays patrolling indicates there is a weapon cash in NAI CHARLIE and that the enemy are trying to delay us enough to get the weapon cash out of danger. b) Friendly forces The ANA platoon that has surprised us with showing up in the middle of the night will return to their own patrol base today and will not operate with us but will instead stay in this patrol base until later this afternoon to spread out the blue movements. The rest of the battalion is working as per OPORD #1 c) Attachments/Detachments + Air detachment with Rotary wing and fixed-wing assets as needed. d) Civilians The civilians have during this operation shown no real interest in us yet, estimates are that they are sitting and waiting who will have the upper hand, ISAF or Taliban. Continue act respective towards the civilians but stay vigilant as they still might be spies for the Taliban. e) Terrain & Weather The terrain on our route back to FOB KINDUF is the green zone, situated in a valley we will move between the dry river bed and the mountains to the west. Further along the road a dry river bed with minor puddles will divide us from the hills and we will move in the green zone between two dry river beds just 2km between the dry river beds. Roads: MSR THUNDER and ASR TORNADO are cutting through the AO in a northwest to southeast direction. MSR THUNDER is asphalt while ASR TORNADO is a dirt road. ZC02 is a rural area with a dirt road in, overall the road is sunken towards the dry river bed and gets covered from the ZC02 area but small berms and hills. If contacts are established here it’s most likely close distance ambushes. ZD01 and ZD02 are in the green zone, a rural area with a mix of open fields and compounds and smaller groves and single trees. In the south part of ZD01 is the camp of GREEN CAMP BASE GR 109075 which is an abandoned SF camp where US SF trained ANA SF units. There is no intel that the Taliban have mined it as they did with Mikes FOB so it could be used but it hasn’t been checked for mines or IEDs. The zone is cut in the middle by the MSR THUNDER, a paved road leading north to south, and should be used to travel on as it’s harder to dig in IEDs in the asphalt. In the south part of ZD02 is the LOBO RIVER BED GR 109055 which is the usable bridge over the dry river bed in the west. ZF01 is located close to FOB KINDUF and is expected to be green, clear from Taliban forces but looks just like ZD01 and ZD02 when it comes to the terrain, rural areas with compounds.

Only additional information for air will be published here, when information is the same as for ground the word “as fragged” will be used or line deleted.
a) Enemy Experience from last mission is that the enemy has ZU-23 positioned on the hills covering the green zone, keep an eye out for these! b) Friendly forces All friendly forces are marked on the map with blue (NATO forces) or green (ANA/ANP) forces. No known SF forces active in our area so any personnel with weapons that are not known friendly or ANA/ANP forces are enemy. c) Terrain & Weather The hills are high in some parts of the AO, ranging from 30m ASL (Above Sea Level) on FOB KINDUF to the highest peak at 1335m ASL. This will have an effect on radio coms and slow-moving helicopters that need to fly along hills or slowly cross across the hills.
